Samsung Posts Record Revenue as AI Chip Demand Drives Profits to Triple
Samsung Electronics has announced preliminary earnings estimates for the fourth quarter of 2025, projecting record-breaking revenue and a near-tripling of operating profit compared to the same period last year. The surge is attributed primarily to exploding global demand for advanced semiconductor memory chips used in artificial intelligence servers.
Financial Performance and Market Drivers
The company anticipates revenue of approximately 93 trillion Korean won (around $64.16 billion) for Q4 2025, representing a 23% increase year-over-year. More strikingly, operating profit is expected to reach about 20 trillion won (~$13.8 billion), nearly three times the figure from Q4 2024. This would surpass the previous quarterly profit record of 17.57 trillion won set in Q3 2018.
This remarkable turnaround follows a challenging period for the tech giant's semiconductor business. The recovery is powered by extremely strong sales of memory chips, including DRAM, High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), and NAND flash. These components are critical for AI servers operated by major technology firms developing next-generation AI applications and services.
Semiconductor Division Leads the Charge
As the world's largest memory chip maker, Samsung competes with SK Hynix and Micron in this high-stakes segment. The company's Device Solutions division, responsible for semiconductor sales, is reported to have contributed at least 15 trillion won (~$10.34 billion) to the quarterly profit. A key development has been Samsung's progress in the HBM market, which is crucial for AI accelerators. After initial challenges in supplying HBM3 and HBM3E chips to partners like Nvidia, the company reportedly secured supply approval for HBM3E last year and has more recently received approval for its upcoming HBM4 chips.
While the semiconductor unit drove profits, other divisions showed mixed results. The mobile experience (MX) business, encompassing smartphones, is estimated to have generated an operating profit of 2-3 trillion won. The foundry business, which manufactures chips for other companies, reportedly narrowed its losses. The display division remained profitable, though the home appliances business faced stiff competition that may have impacted its earnings.
Outlook for 2026 and Beyond
Samsung Electronics will release its audited financial results and detailed divisional performance later this month. Industry analysts project that the company's momentum could continue into 2026, with some forecasts suggesting its full-year operating profit could exceed 100 trillion won (~$69 billion) for the first time. This optimism is grounded in the sustained growth trajectory of AI infrastructure investment, which continues to fuel demand for advanced memory solutions.
The anticipated results underscore a significant strategic shift for Samsung, highlighting how its semiconductor technology, particularly in AI-optimized memory, has become a central pillar of its financial success amidst a global race for AI computing power.
