Apple's budget-friendly iPhone lineup is poised for a significant refinement with the anticipated iPhone 17e, which aims to correct a notable feature omission that drew criticism in its predecessor.

Rectifying the MagSafe Omission

The iPhone 16e, launched earlier this year as Apple's most affordable new device, came with a series of compromises to achieve its lower price point. Among the most conspicuous was the lack of MagSafe support. While the device retained standard Qi wireless charging capabilities, the absence of the magnetic alignment system meant users could not utilize the growing ecosystem of MagSafe accessories—a feature that has become a hallmark of the modern iPhone experience.

Reports now indicate that the iPhone 17e, expected to arrive in early 2026, will integrate full MagSafe support. This addition directly addresses one of the main critiques leveled at the iPhone 16e, bringing the budget model in line with the convenience and accessory compatibility enjoyed by other models in the iPhone family.

Beyond Magnets: Other Expected Upgrades

The inclusion of MagSafe is not the only improvement rumored for the iPhone 17e. The device is also said to be equipped with Apple's second-generation C1X cellular modem, an upgrade from the older C1 modem found in the iPhone 16e. This newer modem, which debuted in the iPhone Air this past September, promises enhancements in connectivity efficiency and performance.

Display specifications are expected to remain largely consistent with the predecessor, featuring the same screen size and technology. However, rumors suggest the bezels will be thinner, offering a more modern and immersive visual experience. The front-facing camera is reportedly receiving an upgrade to an 18MP sensor, matching the selfie camera used across the rest of the iPhone 17 series. Internally, the device is anticipated to be powered by the A19 chip, the same processor found in the standard iPhone 17, ensuring robust performance. The rear camera setup is likely to remain a single 48MP sensor, maintaining the balance between cost and capability.
